Abstract
The past year has again seen an explosion in the identification of novel cDNAs that encode various channel proteins of either known or new superfamilies. The availability of these cDNAs has permitted exciting developments in which the functional roles of defined conserved domains as well as the divergent regions between the protein products of any one superfamily are beginning to be explored.
